PWM controller has loss-less current sensing

International Rectifier offers a pulse-width modulated (PWM) control IC with built-in, loss-less current sensing and over-current protection that simplifies circuits and maximises efficiency since external sense resistors are not needed. The IRU3039 is a versatile device designed for a wide range of compact, high performance synchronous buck regulator applications. Over-current protection is achieved by monitoring the synchronous MOSFET on-resistance. This enhances efficiency and also reduces cost by eliminating the current sense resistor. An on-board regulator cuts component count further. The single output voltage can be programmed as low as 0,8 V for low voltage applications. Switching frequency is programmable up to 400 kHz, allowing use of smaller inductors and output capacitors. It includes a 0,8 V precision reference voltage with 2% output voltage accuracy over the operating temperature range.
