The Erni DIN 41612 Series is a plug and receptacle connector family designed for use with printed circuit cards in conjunction with rack metal backplanes or motherboards.
Contact spacing for types B & C is a 2,54 mm square grid. Adjacent connector pairs may be mounted on as close as 11,5 mm centres (96 or 64 connector assembly). The plug is fitted with a skirt that surrounds the receptacle sides when mated. The skirt protects the plug contacts and is a guide for insulator body alignment during mating. Both plug and receptacle are chamfered at the entrance of engagement areas to provide lead-in to facilitate mating and compensate for initial misalignment.
For versatility in grid sizes, the 96-pin version is available with the centre row of contacts omitted, transforming 96-pin size into a 64-pin size on a 2,54 x 5,08 mm grid.
The inverted DIN Series - types Q & R - reverses the role of pin and socket connectors from standard connectors. The pin connector is mounted on the backpanel and the socket connector on the PCB, which provides significant cost and repairability advantages. Very universal complex interconnection solutions are possible. It is primarily used in telecommunication systems. The inverted DIN can replace the standard DIN using the same termination conditions and without requiring any additional design changes.
Female DIN41612 socket connectors are equipped with solderless IDC terminations that combine the advantages of flat cable wiring and DIN 41612. Available with or without strain relief, the insulation displacement contact is designed to guarantee high contact reliability.
41612 Series D-F-G-H connectors are mainly used in applications where the requirements call for rigid terminations and large contact distances. The grid between contacts of 5,08 mm (0,2") allows this connector to be used at higher operating voltages.
These values and the average current rating of 4 A, makes these connectors suitable for power supply and the heavy environment of industrial electronics.
