Mintek is a world-leading technology provider specialising in mineral processing, extractive metallurgy, and related fields. Mintek works closely with industry and research organisations to offer R&D expertise, service test work, equipment, and novel process technologies for the minerals industry world-wide.
At the Blue IQ trade show the group's Biotechnology Division will showcase its products, services and R&D, some of which include:
* Bioleaching technology for processing of refractory sulphide gold concentrates - commercial projects in Tasmania, Australia and Laizhou, China will be showcased.
* Bioleaching technology for processing of complex 'polymetallic' concentrates (containing a variety of metals such as copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver) - operation of a large-scale demonstration plant in Mexico will be showcased.
* Heap-bioleaching technology for the processing of copper-sulphide ores - exciting new developments in this field will be emphasised.
The accompanying picture shows the commercial bacterial-oxidation plant at the Beaconsfield Gold Mine in Tasmania, Australia, which operates using Mintek's refractory gold bioleach technology.
The exhibit will also feature some of the Division's current areas of R&D: the development of a bio-process for the treatment of high-grade zinc concentrates; the development of a heap innoculation process; ongoing developments in the field of heap bioleaching for copper-sulphide ores; expansion into new areas, such as bio-remediation, bio-energy, and bio-nanotechnology.
