A simple solution for sensing discrete positions along the stroke of hydraulic cylinders without expensive new design is now available from Balluff with its Micropulse transducer. The BTL5-F100 makes it possible to sense the fully retracted and fully extended positions of a cylinder as well as two selectable switchpoints in between. The Micropulse transducer is equipped with four user-programmable binary outputs.
This is a remarkably simple system that saves cylinder manufacturers much cost: now the end user can select from the entire product range of hydraulic cylinders, and simply specify that the cylinders be equipped to accommodate a positioning system, since the transducer is installed in the same location as older traditional feedback devices.
Installation is simple. The BTL5F100 is inserted in a standard M18 x 1,5 threaded hole and tightened down. Calibration is simple: the Micropulse transducer is equipped with an LED-guided pushbutton module that allows the four switchpoints to be selected as desired. The non-contact, magnetostrictive operating principle, means the transducer is wear- and maintenance-free.
