A family of single and dual cell Lithium-Ion and Lithium-Polymer charge-management controllers from Microchip offer an industry-leading voltage regulation accuracy of ±0,5%. The MCP7384x series combines high-accuracy, constant-voltage/constant-current regulation, cell preconditioning, cell-temperature monitoring, advanced safety timers, automatic charge termination, and charge status indication in space-saving MSOP package. Cell preconditioning supports deeply depleted batteries. Cell-temperature monitoring measures cell temperature preventing charging outside the recommended temperature window. Safety timers allow for time-based charge termination ensuring safety. Designers can program the charge current and use an external field effect transistor, making these devices ideal for high capacity battery packs requiring fast charging time. The devices automatically power down when the input source is removed minimising the battery drain, and also begin a new charge cycle when the battery voltage falls below the recharge threshold, eliminating frequent trickle charge periods. MCP7384x devices are available in 4,1, 4,2, 8,2 and 8,4 V preset voltage options.
