Ultra-compact, low-power devices always have space as its enemy. Designed for applications in which space is at a premium, ZiLOG offers a range of IrDA transceivers for a range of applications such as inventory control, vending, portable scanners, portable medical, diagnostic and measurement products, as well as mobile phones, digital cameras, and handheld computers.
The ZiLOG IrDA transceivers require very few interface components and use very little power. For IrDA-ready appliances (IrDA Data Specification 1.4-compliant) there are solutions for SIR, SIR IrMC, and FIR. The SIR solutions require only three external interface components while the FIR and SIR IrMC solutions require only two.
A shutdown mode on all models increases battery life while an on-chip LED protection circuit prevents LED burnout if device is accidentally left on.
