The TPA2008D2 is claimed to be the industry's first 5 V filter-free Class-D audio power amplifier with integrated DC volume control. The gain of this Texas Instruments' device, which affects the output power level, is controlled by a DC voltage applied to the volume pin. At full power the TPA2008D2 will drive 6 W (3 W x 2) into 3 Ω speakers with no external heatsink. Eliminating the external heatsink is made possible from its high efficiency of more than 80%. Half power total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N) is only 0,045% at 1 kHz and the noise floor is a benchmark for Class-D amplifiers at -80 dBV. The low THD+N and noise floor help ensure a clean, pure signal is heard at the speaker. The TPA2008D2 comes in a standard PowerPAD surface mount 24-pin TSSOP.
