Allegro's stepper-motor driver IC uses the company's 'EasyStepper' translator technology to provide microstepping (one-eighth step) operation for office automation, industrial and medical applications. The EasyStepper interface reduces the number of control lines from as many as eight lines down to just two: STEP and DIRECTION. Operation involves simply inputting one pulse on the STEP input of the device for the motor to take one microstep, without the need for phase-sequence tables, high-frequency control lines, or complex interfaces to program.
The A3967 device is ideally suited to applications where a complex microprocessor is unavailable or over-burdened. The critical microstepping control is integrated into the driver IC, providing a motor driver that can run independently of a microprocessor.
