Surge voltage protection for LAN interfaces with increased performance requirements

25 February 2004 Circuit & System Protection Infrastructure

The Datatrab D-LAN-CAT.5E surge voltage protector from Phoenix Contact is a surge voltage protection device designed for the interfaces of important data transfer systems such as Ethernet, Token Ring and FDDI. The circuitry of this multifunctional conductor protects all eight signal paths, which are connected via the RJ-45 connector, making it ideal for the corresponding network interfaces. The protective adapter meets the more stringent transmission quality performance requirements in line with Cat 5E (enhanced Cat 5). This ensures reliable transmission even for transfer rates up to 100 Mbps according to the latest standard - without unacceptably high insertion loss and while still offering good crosstalk attenuation.

The protective adapter comes with an RJ-45 socket for the network connection and a short connection cable with RJ-45 plug for the data line connection to the end device. A wire for the grounding connection leads out of the adapter housing.

The D-LAN-CAT.5E-U version with mounting base is available for rail mounting. This means that the protection device can be used alongside industrial Ethernet end devices in line with control cabinet standards.
