Long life, vandal protected piezo switches

10 March 2004 Switches, Relays & Keypads

Due to their operating use, door opener switches for local public transport and switches mounted on traffic lights, are subject to extreme demands. Rough environmental conditions and vandalism cause specific demands on the switches.

The piezo-switches, PSE HI, (high impact) from Schurter have been designed specifically for these applications. Piezo-switches do not feature any mechanical moving parts giving the benefit that even under continuous operation there is no risk from loss of functionality due to switches wearing out. In laboratory tests, a life expectancy of over 20 million actuations was achieved, which makes the switch almost service free.

With enhanced vandal-proof protection the innovative construction of the switch offers a higher impact resistance of IK06 to DIN EN 50102 specifications. These completely sealed switches (IP67) feature fully encapsulated electronics within the housing. This ensures that neither fluids nor dust can penetrate.

The PSE HI switches from the METAL LINE product family are available in mounting diameters of 22 and 27 mm for front panel mounting. Both the actuating surface and the body of the switches are made from high grade stainless steel. This makes these switches particularly well suited for outdoor applications and rough environments.
