Murata claims its Posistors are the smallest in the world at 0603 size. For over-current prevention and overheat sensing, these positive-going thermistors offer a very rapid resistance increase when the temperature reaches the Curie point. Compared with common bimetal devices, Posistors cost less, are smaller, have no contact problems and are noise free. They require less circuit components than Zener diodes, occupy less space and reduce assembly costs.

The PRF18 over-temperature sensors have a nominal resistance value of 470 Ω, sensing temperatures in 10 degree steps from 85 to 145°C and operating temperature ranges from -20°C to comfortably above their sensing temperatures. Over-current protection is provided by the PRG18 and 21 families, 0603 and 0805 sized, operating currents are 25, 35, 55, 75, 85 110 mA and 140 mA. Both fuse resistors and current limiting chip resistors can be replaced with these devices.
