With the advent of more customised designs for electronic devices, ie, cellphones, remote security and access control and input units etc, Technological Rubber has developed the 'rubber to plastic' moulding technology.
The base layer is still silicone rubber, usually translucent for back lighting. The top layer is plastic, which gives a 'hard' feel whilst the silicone layer allows the different activating force, travel and tactile function. The finish on the key tops can be silvered, chromed and/or coloured.
One major advantage is that the silk screen can be applied to the top surface of the silicone layer and then a transparent plastic layer is moulded over the silicone, providing complete protection to the silk screen. Laser 'nightlight' engraving can also be used for the silk screen.
