Westplex has been appointed as the distributor of Matrox Imaging Products in South Africa. Matrox Imaging is a leading designer of PC-based hardware and software for machine vision, image analysis and medical imaging. According to the distributor, its imaging solutions combine easy-to-use, device-independent software with state-of-the-art hardware.
Matrox offers developers a comprehensive set of software tools. Products include a highly-optimised image analysis library with a common API across the entire hardware line. Designed for rapid application development, this library has over 300 functions. Additional software includes an interactive MS Windows-based prototyping tool and a camera interface utility.
The IRIS programmable smart camera combines the integration capabilities of a conventional smart camera with the flexibility of a PC-based machine vision system. Developers write their applications with the software development toolkit and run them directly on the camera.
According to the company, a unique combination of embedded PC technology, compact size and ruggedness make Matrox Imaging's standalone platform the ideal solution for cost-sensitive machine vision, image analysis and video surveillance applications. It provides developers with the industry's most comprehensive frame grabber family. Hardware ranges from basic boards designed for very cost-sensitive applications, to frame grabbers integrating flexible, high-rate acquisition and leading-edge display technology. A new cost-
effective board for multiple-input video capture with on-board JPEG2000 compression is ideal for surveillance applications.
The vision processing technology used, integrates high-bandwidth acquisition, realtime scalable processing and high-resolution display.
Westplex says that the comprehensive Matrox product line is complemented by its other established vision product lines that include: Basler digital line- and area-scan cameras; Myutron macro and telecentric lenses for machine vision; Cermaligne line laser projectors; Fastec hand-held high-speed cameras, multispectral and microscope cameras; AOS rugged high-speed cameras for vehicle impact testing and industrial use; and Spectex Visual Inspection system for assembly lines.
