National Instruments' first release of the control design and simulation software suite it acquired in January 2003, MATRIXx 6.3 delivers long-awaited updates and enhancements and is the initial step in the company's long-term plan for MATRIXx development, service and support based on feedback from the extensive MATRIXx customer base.

"We worked closely with NI to communicate future MATRIXx developments conducive to the continued success of our programs that rely on MATRIXx software, such as our Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) and Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) programs," said David Evans, Boeing manager of aerodynamics and flight controls. "With the operating system updates in MATRIXx 6.3 and our renewed confidence in future MATRIXx development, we will continue to use this software for existing and future projects."

For optimum performance and reliability, MATRIXx 6.3 is built on the solid 6.2 architecture and is both backward and forward compatible. The software now runs under the most recent Windows and Solaris operating systems, Windows 2000/XP/NT and Solaris 9, and features an array of updates and enhancements, including:

* Improved data visualisation - Design engineers now can more effectively plot data on 3D graphs with a new lighting feature in Xmath that clearly defines contours in their product models.

* Greater diagram printing control - Engineers now can print specific portions of their models in SystemBuild, including state diagrams, to improve documentation of the development process with expanded output options and better resolution.

* More comprehensive help - Help documentation now is easier to navigate and access with improved organisation and search features.

* Enhanced modelling capabilities in SystemBuild - With improvements to componentisation of portions of models, design engineers can organise their system models in a more hierarchical manner while maintaining accurate simulation results.

MATRIXx contains differentiated, leading-edge technology in control design, system modelling and automatic code generation. Companies including Boeing, Volvo, NASA and Lockheed Martin use MATRIXx for applications such as developing aerospace flight controllers and simulators and building automotive engine and brake control systems.
