Cirrus Logic has announced that it has received Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2 operating system board support package (BSP) certification for its EDB9312 development platform. The system hardware is based on the new Cirrus Logic EP9312 highly integrated embedded system-on-chip (SOC) processor. Having passed this certification process, Cirrus says that customers of its EP9312 embedded processor are ensured of fully compliant system software that will accelerate design cycles for next-generation products.
The Cirrus Logic EDB9312 board support package includes the Windows CE .NET 4.2 operating system and on-chip driver support such as Ethernet, IDE, USB and accelerated 2D graphics. The porting and driver development work was performed by the Cirrus Logic system software development team. With the Microsoft certification, customers now have the maximum opportunity to leverage the EP9312's rich set of highly integrated features on a Windows-based platform.
"Microsoft is pleased to announce BSP certification for Cirrus Logic's EDB9312 development platform," said Todd Brix, group product manager of the Embedded Device Group at Microsoft. "The certification will enable customers to rapidly evaluate and build device solutions using Windows CE .NET 4.2 and Cirrus' EP9312 platform."
To ensure that customers receive a true out-of-the-box experience - and a positive experience as well - the company says that its EDB9312 board kit includes both the Windows CE .NET 4.2 BSP and an evaluation version of Microsoft's Platform Builder. Cirrus plans to obtain Windows CE .NET certification across its entire family of arm9-based EP93XX embedded processors.
"Cirrus Logic is a system solution provider, not just a chip supplier," said Tom Lee, vice president, Embedded Processor Marketing. "We are now supplying the entire embedded system solution platform, including a highly integrated ARM9-based SOC, a hardware development platform, a comprehensive tool chain and the latest Windows CE operating system."
