Enhanced VoIP conformance testing solution

5 May 2004 Test & Measurement Asset Management

Spescom MeasureGraph's product specialist Rui Godinho says the upgraded version of Inet Diagnostic's Spectra2 offers comprehensive IP conformance testing capabilities.

Spectra2 is a comprehensive, fully integrated diagnostic testing solution for Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) developers, carriers and equipment manufacturers. It offers the ability to verify the performance of critical elements of next-generation networks such as media gateways, media gateway controllers, gatekeepers, and proxy servers, and to confirm delivery of the highest level of signalling and media quality, says Godinho.

The instrument offers comprehensive VoIP conformance testing capabilities for carriers, developers and equipment manufacturers. Its testing solution includes support for conformance with Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Megaco, H.323 and MGCP protocols. Combined with Spectra2's ease-of-use and application integration, Godinho says that users are able to compress their testing and product development cycles, resulting in a faster time to market for new products and services.

Spectra2 is said to be easy to operate, which reduces costs and employee downtime associated with product training. In addition, it comes with packaged test suites and automation tools, which saves time and money on programming and test case development. Version 3.3 also includes new features that support automated scheduling of test scripts and generator models, as well as support for the IPv6 addressing format for all Spectra2 applications and VoIP protocols.

"Conformance testing benefits equipment manufacturers and carriers by validating network elements against industry standards and confirming equipment interoperability. Spectra2 allows users to be able to verify product compliance, media quality and interoperability before going to market," says Godinho. "Realtime applications such as voice and video are driving awareness and demand for testing IP communications. Innovative services will not compensate for poor voice quality."
