CompactPCI power supply

19 May 2004 Power Electronics / Power Management Infrastructure

The four-output CPA (AC/DC) and CPD (DC/DC) series from Power-One provides up to 40 A of +5 V or +3,3 V, in a CompactPCI compatible package by using Power-One's patented efficient dual geometric edge (EDGE) technology. Two additional outputs provide +12 V at 5,5 and -12 V at 1,5 A.

These products have many standard features designed for hot-swap redundant applications. Front panel mounted LEDs provide visual input and output voltage status. The 3U high x 8HP wide chassis incorporates a 47-pin Positronic connector (per PICMG 2.11). Remote sense and active current share on the +5, +3,3 and +12 V outputs, along with internal ORing FETs, allow these units to be used in redundant, hot-swap applications. The units meet international safety standards and display the CE Mark for the low voltage directive (LVD).

EDGE technology maximises efficiency, allowing the units to provide the highest current rating while still maintaining a safe guardband below component ratings. This means that the power supplies run cool, which in turn enhances system reliability.
