DIP-8 power conversion IC delivers 34 W with no heatsink required

The expanding TOPSwitch-GX high-voltage power conversion IC family from Power Integrations has added another member - the DIP-8 packaged TOP246P, which delivers up to 34 W of continuous power without a heatsink. Designers of higher power DVD players and set-top boxes will benefit from a lower system cost, additional peak power capability (for starting motors and spinning up drives) and the TOPSwitch-GX high performance feature set.

To support designing with TOP246P, a revised TOPSwitch-GX Family Data Sheet and an updated DAK-32 Design Accelerator Kit are available. DAK-32 contains an operational 20 W (25 W peak) universal input, multiple output power supply using TOP245P, an engineering prototype report, a Flyback Design Methodology application note, product samples (both TOP245P and TOP246P) and PI Expert power supply design software. Two fully verified and tested power supply Design Ideas may be easily adapted to the TOP246P.
