DC/DC converter with output disconnect

Linear Technology's LTC3459 is a new 10 V synchronous boost DC/DC converter with onboard output disconnect and inrush current limiting. Packaged in a ThinSOT, it operates from an input voltage of 1,5 to 5,5 V, suited for single cell Li-Ion, or multicell NiMH, alkaline applications, as well as more general-purpose fixed rail systems. It is well suited for 'keep-alive' battery back-up systems that are required to deliver milliamps of current to rails as high as 9 V when the main battery is being replaced. With a 5 V input voltage, it can generate 8 V at 30 mA. Additional features including output disconnect, inrush current limiting and short circuit protection. It uses only 10 µA of quiescent current, maximising battery run time. A constant off-time (COT) architecture enables the use of tiny low cost capacitors and inductor.
