Enpirion has released what it claims is the world's smallest power system on a chip (PSoC). The EN5330 integrated DC-DC converter is for use in point of load (POL) applications. The device, which features an integrated inductor, is in a dual flat no-lead (DFN) TSSOP footprint package that covers just over 100 mm2. Including the minimum of three external components, the entire DC-DC converter can be placed in as little as 135 mm2 board space (102 mm2 for double-sided). Height is 2,2 mm. Operation from common voltage rails of 2,5 V, 3,3 V and 5 V is achieved with a wide input voltage range from 2,38 V to 6,5 V. With up to 3 A or 10 W output power, the output voltage is pin-selectable to seven standard voltages (0,8 V to 3,3 V). A resistor divider setting enables a continuous set-point range from 0,8 V to Vin. Full protection functionality is offered with over-current, short-circuit, over-voltage, under-voltage and thermal shutdown features.
