Uninterruptible power supplies for 24 V systems

14 July 2004 Power Electronics / Power Management

The new Quint Buffer and Quint DC-UPS uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) from Phoenix Contact ensure continuous operation of all 24 V devices in electrical installations during power interruptions. A buffer module and three UPS modules ensure the correct response to every demand on output current and buffer time.

These power supplies are also suited wherever smooth process flow is required in spite of poor grid quality and unreliable power supply. For brief power interruptions lasting up to four seconds, the Quint Buffer buffer module supplies the required current from maintenance-free electrolytic capacitors. Brief power outages are thus intercepted with minimal expense. The Quint DC-UPS module responds to longer outages with durable lead-acid storage batteries. This ensures uninterrupted operation of all connected devices, even during long power outages.

The model with 10 A output includes an integrated 1,3 A.h battery. The 20 A and 40 A models can be combined with 3,4 A.h, 7,2 A.h and 12 A.h battery modules as desired. Dividing smaller batteries into 'buffered' and 'unbuffered' loads saves money and takes up less space in the control cabinet.
