50 MHz precision low noise CMOS amplifier

28 July 2004 Analogue, Mixed Signal, LSI

Analog Devices' AD8651 is the fastest member in the company's growing DigiTrim precision amplifier family, a high precision, low noise, low distortion, rail-to-rail CMOS operational amplifier running at single-supply voltage from 2,7 to 5 V.

The device's DigiTrim trimming technology allows for better performance at a lower price, says ADI. This is a new generation that measures and corrects the offset over the entire input common-mode range, reducing distortion caused by the VOS variation present in conventional rail-to-rail CMOS amplifiers. The AD8651 features a wide bandwidth (50 MHz) and fast settling time (0,2 µs) and low noise of 5 nV/rt Hz.

Unlike most rail-to-rail input amps, the company says the AD8651 minimises offset changes over the entire common-mode range, resulting in improved CMRR (-80 dB min) and lower distortion (0,0006%). VOS, CMRR, and gain are specified over the entire common-mode range. The combination of low distortion, precision, and fast settling time makes the device a good choice for instrumentation applications. The AD8651 is also highly effective for use in communication applications such as cellphone transmission, power control, fibre-optic networking, and wireless networking. It is also highly suited as a video line driver, photodiode amplifier, high resolution ADC driver, or high speed DAC I-to-V converter.

The AD8651 is offered in an 8-lead SOIC package and an 8-lead MSOP package. It is specified over -40 to +125°C.
