Robust motor drive control ICs

International Rectifier says that its 1200 V-rated HVICs (high voltage integrated circuits) can be safely used as a single-part solution in high voltage industrial systems for protection circuits as well as high- and low-side switching. Standard devices rated at lower voltages typically use several components and bulky opto-couplers to accomplish the same switching and protection functions, it says. The IR2214 and IR22141 are half-bridge gate driver ICs designed specifically for 400 V a.c. three-phase AC induction motor drives using a 550 V bus as well as brushless DC motors both from 7,5 kW to 15 kW. IR says that they simplify motor control design by integrating protection circuitry and eliminating the need for customised programming of protection algorithms. Both devices are the same, but the IR22141 includes a built-in active bias circuit that reduces external filtering. Output capability is 3 A for high voltage, high current IGBTs, MOSFETs and integrated power modules. Both ICs include motor drive protection.
