Deep-memory oscilloscopes up to 128 Mpts enable complex signal capture

25 August 2004 Test & Measurement

Agilent Technologies offers new memory options for its Infiniium 54830 Series of digital storage and mixed-signal oscilloscopes, making them, it claims, the deepest-memory oscilloscopes in the industry. The new options incorporate Agilent's patented MegaZoom deep-memory technology with depths up to 128 Mpts to enable fast waveform capture of complex signals, instant response and superior ease of use.

It says the options enable advanced measurement performance previously out of reach, helping R&D engineers speed the development of new products within the computer, communications and defence industries.

Agilent's Infiniium 54830 Series oscilloscopes have bandwidths of 600 MHz and 1 GHz. They help R&D engineers to easily capture complex waveforms at the oscilloscope's full sample rate for time spans in the tens of milliseconds. In addition, this series has a new segmented memory acquisition mode that allows engineers analysing communications or radar signals bursting in nature, to capture and store only the periods of activity. This means that acquisition memory is no longer needlessly consumed by periods of inactivity between bursts.

The user interface of the 54830 series is based on the open Microsoft Windows XP Pro operating system. The interface optimises the oscilloscope for advanced analysis and deep-memory acquisitions. The open interface combined with the 'My Infiniium' integration package that allows engineers to integrate additional software applications such as Agilent VEE Pro or MathWorks MATLAB. Agilent's vector signal analysis software can also be installed and run. This offers powerful and flexible wideband signal analysis on communication signals and modulated radar through the full 128 Mpts of waveform capture.
