Linear Technology claims its LT1935 is the industry's highest power switching regulator in ThinSOT-23 package. The 2 A, 40 V, 1,2 MHz step-up DC/DC converter has a wide 2,3 V to 16 V input voltage range so it can operate from single cell Li-Ion batteries up to fixed 15 V input rails, delivering outputs up to 38 V. Constant 12 MHz switching frequency allows minimal switching noise and enables use of smaller capacitors and inductors. The LT1935's NPN switch achieves a VCESAT of only 180 mV at 2 A, independent of supply voltage, resulting in high efficiency even at max power levels from a 3 V input. Its high voltage switch is rated at 40 V, making it suited for boost converters up to 38 V, as well as for single-ended primary inductance converter (SEPIC) and flyback designs. It can generate 5 V at up to 1 A from a 3,3 V supply or 5 V at 550 mA from four alkaline cells in a SEPIC design.
