The first members of Microchip's new low-power family of digital-to-analog converters (DACs), controllable via SPI, have been released. The 12-bit resolution MCP4921 and the MCP4922 use a resistive string architecture, which provides low power consumption (350 µA), low differential non-linearity (DNL) error (less than ±0,2 LSB) and compact size (including the 8-pin MSOP package). The high accuracy makes these devices highly suited for setpoint control applications used in a range of communications and handheld battery-powered designs. The devices operate from 2,7 to 5,5 V. The MCP4921 (single channel) is available in an 8-pin PDIP, SOIC or MSOP package and the MCP4922 (dual channel) is available in a 14-pin PDIP, SOIC or TSSOP packages.
