Micrel's MIC2288/90 series, two new small-sized PWM DC/DC boost converters capable of generating up to 34 V, are suited for powering organic EL and LCD displays, and photo-flash LEDs. With its internal Schottky diode, the MIC2290 is Micrel's smallest size PWM DC/DC boost solution. In a 2 x 2 mm MLF package, it can handle more than 0,5 A of current while providing more than 80% efficiency. The MIC2290 requires only five external components to produce a complete boost converter solution. The MIC2288 is also available in low-profile thin SOT23-5 package. The MIC2288 and MIC2290 both implement high-frequency 1,2 MHz PWM control. Constant frequency significantly reduces input ripple and noise compared to variable-frequency PFM boost converter solutions.
