Dallas Semiconductor produces what it says is the industry's first digital temperature-sensor IC to operate from a low supply-voltage range of 1,7 V to 3,5 V, making it ideal for low-power and battery-operated systems, plus any thermally sensitive system that uses low supply-voltage rails.
The DS620 is factory calibrated to an accuracy of ±0,5°C (max) over its entire supply-voltage range and its wide temperature range of 0 to +70°C. It is ±2,0°C (max) accurate over its entire operating temperature range of -55 to +125°C. The DS620 thermometer provides 10-, 11-, 12-, or 13-bit digital temperature readings that translate to resolutions between 0,5°C (10-bit) and 0,0625°C (13-bit). Thermostat functionality with nonvolatile (EEPROM), user-defined trip points, allows the user to customise the threshold temperature and output hysteresis. The DS620 can be configured to measure temperature at power up, thus enabling its thermostat functionality to operate in a standalone mode without user or processor intervention. When not in use, the thermostat output can act as a general-purpose programmable output. Communication with the DS620 is achieved through a standard 2-wire serial interface.
Typical applications for the DS620 (offered in 8-pin microSOP package) include portable temperature loggers, portable medical equipment, networking equipment, servers/computers, test equipment, and any low-voltage, thermally sensitive system.
