Covert cameras or 'spy cameras' are growing in popularity. From small business owners to private and public law enforcement, everyone seems to be able to benefit from wireless hidden cameras, even criminals. However, by using a video receiver easily available in just about any electronics shop, it is relatively easy to intercept wireless hidden camera images several hundred metres away from the actual transmitter.

Until now, the most secure way of sending spy camera images to a video recorder was by using cumbersome and highly visible wiring. Now, a novel approach from Covert Systems Group uses the home or office power lines to deliver the signal. It uses a video encoder and decoder to virtually 'wrap' the video signal around the electrical lines of any home or office. The user simply plugs the spy camera into an outlet and aims it at the desired target. Next, the user plugs the special encoder into an outlet up to 600 m from the camera and can attach it to a VCR or a TV.
