Aluminium electrolytic capacitors are resistant to shock and vibration

6 October 2004 Passive Components

The Epcos capacitors of the large-size series B41605 and B41607 have been specially developed by the company for automotive electronics. They are distinguished by high vibrational strength and maximum ripple current capability at high temperatures and frequencies. Their superior vibrational strength is the result of a special corrugated design, which has passed all vibration tests up to 30 g and 2 kHz, even after prolonged thermal stress over 2000 hours at 125°C.

These capacitors are designed for maximum operating voltages from 25 to 63 V. They cover the capacitance range from 1100 to 6800 μF and are specified for a maximum continuous operating temperature of 150°C. Their high ripple current capability of 13 A at 10 kHz and 105°C deserves special mention. At this temperature, the components attain a service life of 20 000 hours. The new large-size capacitors are available with snap-in terminals and with terminal wires suitable for welding and soldering.
