Entry-level PC104 CPU module

20 October 2004 Computer/Embedded Technology

A new entry level PC104 CPU module with integrated CPU and chipset that brings dual display and flexible I/O options to the PC104 form factor community, has been released by Advantech. The PCM-3341 module is designed for medical applications, industrial control, vehicular systems, and applications where space consideration and adaptable I/O configurations are required.

The single integrated CPU and chipset allows this PC104 module able to pack more features on-board. The low power fanless STPC ATLAS CPU integrates a standard x86 core along with a powerful UMA graphics/video chipset, support logic including ISA, Local Bus, USB, and EIDE controllers, plus 32/64 MB of onboard SDRAM. Dual output display support enables LCD and CRT devices up to a maximum of 1280 x 1024 resolution.

Self-stacking PC104 modules allow multiple modules to be simply added to the system. Numerous standard ISA add-on cards are available that use the PC104 sockets, which helps speed development time and reduce costs. PCM-3341 has four COM ports, CompactFlash slot Type I socket, 2 USB 1.1 compliant ports, and GPIO, and supports all the popular embedded OS. A watchdog timer and 10/100 Mbps Ethernet are also provided.
