Portable oscilloscopes with isolated channels for lab or field use

Channels Measurement Services has announced the availability of the Tektronix TPS2000 Series digital storage oscilloscopes (DSOs) designed to improve the productivity of designers and technicians that need a powerful, general-purpose oscilloscope in a compact, portable package.

The TPS2000 Series are the first full-featured, four-isolated-channel, battery-powered oscilloscopes providing an accomplished measurement tool equally adept in the lab or in the field, says the company.

Designers and technicians conduct a broad range of design validation and equipment maintenance tasks in a variety of working conditions. They often need to verify the performance of complex control circuits and determine the effects of neutral current for differential voltages. For this they need a lightweight, portable, full-featured oscilloscope capable of making floating measurements and which has long battery life to support operations where AC power is not available.

Current alternatives for making floating and differential measurements may lack the versatility, accuracy, or affordability needed by these users, says Tektronix. With the TPS2000 Series, floating measurements up to 30 V rms can be made using the standard P2220 probe provided, while floating measurements of higher voltages can be made using the TPS2PBND Power Bundle option. The TPS2PBND Power Bundle option enables the scopes to measure up to 1000 V rms CAT II from the probe tip to earth ground and measurements can be made on all channels simultaneously on voltages which are floating up to 600 V rms CAT II (300 V rms CAT III). The TPS2PBND consists of four P5120 passive high-voltage probes and the TPS2PWR1 power measurement and analysis application software.

The Series also helps users to quickly capture elusive glitches or anomalies that elude other oscilloscopes in this class, and characterise fast edges on four channels simultaneously with unique digital realtime (DRT) sampling technology.

Comments Basil Baum, MD of Channels: "With four isolated channels, digital realtime technology and up to eight hours of battery operation, the TPS2000 Series oscilloscopes offer full-featured performance essential to enhancing productivity. The TPS2000 oscilloscopes provide an all-in-one solution that enables customers to accomplish more in less time and with less equipment."

Single solution from bench to lab to field

The TPS2000 Series consists of three models, TPS2012, TPS2014, and TPS2024. The TPS2024 and TPS2014 offer four channels with 200 and 100 MHz bandwidth respectively, while the TPS2012 offers two channels at 100 MHz bandwidth. All channels are isolated from ground by virtue of Tektronix' IsolatedChannel technology. All models provide as standard a four hour rechargeable battery, realtime acquisition, advanced triggers up to their full bandwidth, and digital realtime sampling technology that captures single-shot and intermittent events. OpenChoice software and integrated CompactFlash mass storage are options that allow data transfer and documentation with ease.

New TPS2PWR1 power measurement and analysis software helps reduce development and test time with power-specific measurements such as switching loss (including turn-on, turn-off and conduction losses), harmonic measurements to the 50th harmonic, and dv/dt and di/dt cursor measurements. The software eliminates the need for manual calculations with automated power analysis, waveform analysis and phase analysis with true power, reactive power, peak power, power factor, crest factor, and phase relationships.
