16 bit MCU with Ethernet MAC and EPhy

3 November 2004 DSP, Micros & Memory Infrastructure

The MC9S12NE-Family is a low cost connectivity single-chip applications MCU family from Freescale. It is comprised of standard on-chip peripherals including a

16-bit CPU, 64 KB of Flash, 8 KB RAM. New in the 16-bit arena is the Ethernet media access controller (EMAC) with integrated 10/100M physical transceiver (EPHY). The inclusion of a PLL circuit allows power consumption and performance to be adjusted to suit operational requirements.

This Freescale device also has an on-chip voltage regulator that generates the internal digital supply voltage of 2,5 V from a 3,15 to 3,45 V external supply range. To reduce external components a reset circuit is also integrated. The MC9S12NE-Family has full 16-bit data paths throughout and is packaged in 80 QFP and 112 LQFP.

For cost effective debugging, an enhanced debug12 module, including breakpoints and change-of-flow trace buffer is included. A compact boxed development board will be available. A simple open source TCP/IP stack is promoted by www.violasystems.com

Applications for the device include: sensors and actuators; Internet enabled devices; server applications; remote control of devices in the field; home automation.
