Electrical varnish

Calidus Von Roll Isola has launched a new air-drying, finishing varnish for most types of electrical equipment, including coils, stators and armatures. It says this clear varnish offers excellent adhesion to most materials, and is based on a modified alkyd resin, formulated for the protection of electrical equipment, where anti-tracking top coats are required.

The PNR 0478 varnish is compatible with insulation systems using varnished cloth, cotton, rayon, polyester fibre, nylon and glass tapes. It is also designed for use with all types of laminates, slot liners and wedges, mica products, irradiated polyethylene and wire enamels. It also suits polyester laminates and tubing, vinyl and acetate products, metals, braided wires and cables and most other materials used in electrical equipment.

Methods of application include dipping, brushing or spraying. Performance characteristics include a dielectric strength of 20 kV/mm for both dry material and for submersion in water for 24 hours.

There are three related products in this range of finishing varnishes, where lower track resistance can be tolerated. These are PNR 0472, 0473 and 0474, available in red, white and grey.
