Maxim has released several new 14-bit, analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) offering high sampling rates and simultaneous sampling for up to eight channels. These new ADC families have superior dynamic performance (SFDR = 93 dBc, SINAD = 76 dB) and DC accuracy (±2 LSB INL, ±1 LSB DNL).
The three new ADC families: the MAX1316/MAX1317/MAX1318, MAX1320/MAX1321/MAX1322, and MAX1324/MAX1325/MAX1326, feature 0 V to 5, ±5, and ±10 V analog inputs. The 0 V to 5 V versions (MAX1316/7/8) provide ±6 V overvoltage fault protection, while the MAX1324/5 ±5 and ±10 V devices (the MAX1320/1/2 and MAX1326, respectively) provide ±16,5 V overvoltage fault protection.
The devices are available in 8-channel (MAX1316/MAX1320/MAX1324), 4-channel (MAX1317/MAX1321/MAX1325), and 2-channel (MAX1318/MAX1322/ MAX1326) versions. They integrate a high-speed 15 MHz parallel interface, internal 2,5 V reference, and an internal or external conversion clock. The MAX1316-MAX1326 family can convert two channels in 2 μs or eight channels in 3,8 μs, and has an 8-channel throughput of 263 ksps per channel. These devices accept bipolar or unipolar inputs while operating from a 5 V analog and 2,7 V to 5,25 V digital supply. A first-in/first-out (FIFO) reduces interface overhead and allows conversion results to be read at the end of the conversion sequence or between conversions.
Packaged in a 7 x 7 mm, 48-pin TQFP, these ICs are the smallest ADCs in their class, says the company. All also offer bipolar inputs without negative supply requirements, and give a 2,5 X improvement in sampling rate while reducing the footprint by 2,3 X. They operate over -40 +85°C.
