In line with a commitment to continuous improvement of its technologies and designs, Bourn's sensors and controls has announced product enhancements to the Model 3540 series Precision Potentiometer family. Product enhancements and new options have been rolled up into a single standard Model 3549 Precision Potentiometer.
Some of the enhancements are:
* The outer metal strap has been eliminated. Instead the housing and covers will be heat staked to provide a better dust seal.
* The bushing will now be moulded into the front lid rather than assembled to the housing with the metal strap.
* The bearing surface between the rotor and the front cover has been improved to provide a longer wearing surface.
* The shaft has been upgraded from a single bearing surface to a dual bearing surface for better wear characteristics.
* A new bondable mandrel and resistive wire have been selected to improve electrical performance.
* A newly designed contact spring will increase the rotational life of this product.
* Higher-grade plastics have been selected for a more robust package and better performance of internal mechanical assemblies.
* The solder terminal thickness has been increased to provide a more robust terminal.
In addition to these enhancements, the Model 3549 will be RoHS compliant.
Some of the standard options that will be offered with the Model 3549 are: panel mount bushing or servo lid; single or dual gang; wirewound or Hybriton element; slotted or flatted shaft; 3,5 and 10 turns; various shaft lengths; various shaft diameters; anti-rotation pin; expanded list of standard resistance valves.
