Watchdog supervisory circuits

Microprocessors and DSPs need to be reset when code execution errors occur, as well as when supply voltages fall to invalid levels. A watchdog function can detect code execution errors by monitoring frequent logic transitions on a microprocessor's output pin.

Analog Devices offers a broad portfolio of microprocessor watchdog circuits to suit every application, from the industry-standard ADM70x family to the ADM8616 and ADM8618 - claimed to be the world's first 4-lead watchdogs in tiny SC70 packages. Additional features available in the portfolio are PFI/PFO, battery backup and reset trip points down for 1,8 V supplies.

The ADM8616 features: wide range of trip points; low voltage operation: 1,58 V (min); specified over -40 to +125°C; 1 ms minimum reset timeout; four watchdog timeout options.
