Microchip has introduced temperature sensors in a small SC-70 package that offers low cost and low current consumption (6 μA typical), making them an attractive alternative to thermistors. The MCP9700 and MCP9701 temperature sensors provide a complete solution for thermal protection, temperature measurement or thermal calibration. Low power enables longer battery life and reduces self-heating for better accuracy. The linear output slope of the MCP9701 is 19,53 mV/°C while the MCP9700 output is 10 mV/°C. Overall temperature error is ±4°C (max) from 0 to 70°C. The low output impedance allows direct connection to an ADC input, without buffering. In SC-70 package it is 40% smaller than a SOT-23 package, and the elimination of external components results in a more compact board layout.
