Fluke's 430 Series three-phase power quality analysers were recently launched to Fluke dealers at a function hosted by the sole authorised distributor of Fluke products in southern Africa, Comtest. Sales manager Hilton Preston pointed out the critical role played by the quality of supply, which is indispensable to electrical and electronic equipment.
Preston explained how non-linear loads, switching, load changes and equipment problems could result in poor power quality, which is not only costly in terms of wasted energy and unnecessary downtime, but is also dangerous and increases risk of equipment failure.
"However, it is not all bad news," adds Preston. "Fortunately, Fluke has an unrivalled range of power quality analysers to help you maintain your power systems. The tools give you the power to analyse power-related events or anomaly faster, safer and in more detail than ever before."
The Fluke 430 Series of three-phase power quality analysers comprises two handheld models, namely the 433 and 434, that will help locate, predict, prevent and troubleshoot problems in power distribution systems. The new IEC standards for flicker and power quality are built in to take the guesswork out of monitoring. The Fluke 430 Series is a complete three-phase troubleshooting tool that measures virtually every power system parameter: voltage, current, frequency, power, power consumption (energy), unbalance and flicker, harmonics and inter-harmonics. It also captures events like dips and swells, transients, interruptions and rapid voltage changes.
The unique AutoTrend provides fast insight into changes over time. Every displayed reading is automatically and continuously recorded without having to set up threshold levels or interval times, or having to manually start the process. One can quickly view trends in voltage, current, frequency, power, harmonics or flicker on all three phases plus neutral. Trends can be analysed using the cursors and zoom function - even while background recording continues.
The System-Monitor, with a single button push, gives an overview of power system performance and checks the compliance of incoming power to EN50160 limits, or to custom specifications. The overview is shown on a single screen, with colour-coded bars clearly indicating which parameters fall outside the limits.
The Fluke 430 Series power quality analysers and accessories meet the stringent safety standards requirement for CAT IV 600 V and CAT III 1000 V environments.
