The new Supertex HV9921/22 family of 3-pin switch-mode LED driver ICs have the MOSFET power switch integrated in the IC and allows for the high efficiency driving of low current LEDs in signage or general lighting applications. Targeting applications like incandescent bulb replacements, traffic signs, and LED light strings, the devices internally regulate the LED current to 20 mA (HV9921) and 50 mA (HV9922). The devices allow for universal AC input operation of 85 to 265 V a.c. and have an operating range of 20 to 450 V d.c. The HV9921/22 is a PWM controller and driver IC used in a buck (step down) converter topology. It uses peak current-mode control and requires no compensation. It also uses fixed off-time operation of the MOSFET, which allows the devices to drive LED string voltages to approximately 80% of the input voltage. They come in TO-92 or SOT-89 packages.
