Difference amp improves performance in high-side current sensing applications

18 May 2005 Analogue, Mixed Signal, LSI

The AD8205 from Analog Devices is a high performance, single-supply difference amplifier with a wide input common-mode voltage range of -2 V to +65 V. It can be easily configured for unidirectional and bidirectional operation by allowing the user to reference the output to the supply, ground, or an external voltage.

The device can accurately measure small differential voltages while rejecting high common-mode voltage, making it ideal for current shunt applications. Typical applications can be found in motor controls; solenoid controls; and hydraulic controls.

Key features: high common-mode voltage range of -2 to +65 V operating, -5 V to +68 V survival; 15 μV/°C offset drift; 30 ppm/°C gain drift; 80 dB CMRR d.c. to 20 kHz; operates over -40 to +125°C.
