10 µF X5R capacitor in 0603 size

Passive Components
Murata, an innovator in ceramic technology, has announced it is first to go into volume production of 0603 sized 10 μF multilayer ceramic chip capacitors. These 10 μF capacitors in a stable high-K dielectric, measure just 1,6 x 0,8 mm. Rated at 4 V d.c. the design is ideal for digital circuits working on the progressively reducing voltages of the higher processing speeds.
Until now the smallest 10 μF X5R in high volume production was the company's 0805 (2,0 x 1,25 mm). The 0603 version reduces the PCB footprint by almost 50%, and the volume by 67%. The small size, combined with X5R dielectric at the higher values increases designers' scope for 'dumping' the less competitive Ta and film dielectrics, according to the manufacturer. The superiority of ceramic dielectric can allow the use of lower values in some applications, making extra savings in space, processing time and other costs. The ceramics offer higher reliability, lower loss, better stability and frequency, it says.
