Educational trip worthwhile for Ziehl-ebm SA customers

1 June 2005 News

From 26 April to 1 May some 30 of Ziehl-ebm South Africa's customers were invited to visit the various manufacturing plants and facilities of Ziehl-Abegg and ebmpapst in Germany.

All of the South African party were highly impressed with the cleanliness of the different facilities, particularly the 1,4 km long factory in Bieringen, which contains spotless floors over which workers walk during their two shifts per day. Customers were also impressed with the high standard of quality of the manufacturing process ie, the highly automated production plant with the very latest technology in machinery and equipment.

Also remarkable is the fact that ebmpapst alone produces more than 42 million fans and motors per year. For the production of Ziehl-Abegg's FE range impellers, the company casts 70 tonnes of aluminium per month - an extraordinary amount of material indeed. Visitors found the tour so interesting that many wanted to extend their visit. Of particular interest were the different R&D departments.

Apart from the various meetings and factory tours, the visitors also had time to see some wonderful sites of southern Germany's castles, churches, and other historic places of interest. In all, a good time was had, and much was learned that will be highly beneficial to Ziehl-ebm's South African customers.
