Great interest shown in new GSM measuring technology at conference

Telecoms network infrastructure developer AlanDick Africa has reported it was overwhelmed at the response to the Sensustech Insight System it launched at the recent 3GSM Conference in Cannes. Sensustech is an AlanDick Group company.

"We envision significant potential for the deployment of Sensustech in Africa. Many of our customers are already vying for the opportunity to trial this equipment," says AlanDick Africa account executive, Gavin White.

The Sensustech Insight System offers GSM operators an automated means to monitor, measure and analyse the quality of the service they offer customers. It is designed to make end-to-end measurements that address issues such as the ability to obtain and maintain a quality GSM connection. It differs from conventional test systems because it analyses network performance at the user level utilising voice quality as the key performance indicator, according to the company.

The core concept of the Sensustech Insight technology is to simulate or profile network use according to the parameters set by the network operator. This facilitates testing in set geographical areas and/or at times when the operator experiences increased call volumes. The information gathered enables operators to monitor the network's performance and manage quality improvement, identify areas for action, analyse whether it can handle strategic events before they take place and test whether it can accommodate new services.

To deploy the Sensustech Insight system, compact performance analysis mobiles (PAMs), which are very small measurement devices, can be concealed in taxis, buses, or in handbags. These automated test units can be remotely configured to continuously collect quality measurements, accumulating realtime, statistically-significant data that is regularly uploaded onto a highly secure remote server accessible from any location. The accumulated data can be examined to determine delivered network quality based on relevant near realtime information.

It can be deployed as a continuous service that monitors and improves network delivered quality on an ongoing basis or simply to conduct an initial network quality audit. According to White, this technology is more cost-effective to deploy than traditional test systems, and it also enables the GSM operator to obtain a relevant analysis that covers the entire topography of its network utilising unobtrusive, mobile technology.
