Epcos has added a new CeraDiode to its range for ESD protection. The new CDS4C12GTA type offers the advantage of bidirectional overvoltage protection with low leakage current at the same time. It also features short response times of less than 0,5 ns and no degradation at temperatures up to 85°C. Because its capacitance is stable, the diode can be used as an EMI filter as well as for ESD protection.
Measuring 2,5 x 0,8 mm, it has the same solder pad dimensions as TVS diodes in SOD-223 packages and can thus be used as a drop-in replacement for more expensive diode solutions.
Another new product in the CeraDiode family is the CDA5C16GTH, a high-speed CeraDiode quad array in size 0612. Its self-capacitance is only 3 pF. Signal distortion is thus prevented on lines with high data rates, such as USB 2.0, Firewire, Ethernet and video applications.
