EVE Battery specialises in the research and manufacture of lithium thionyl chloride (Li/SOCl2) and lithium manganese dioxide (Li/MnO2) batteries.
Lithium thionyl chloride batteries exhibit a degree of safety hazard during storage, transportation and application. This hazard is particularly pronounced when short circuited or over-discharged, or with sudden over-currents or charging. In these cases, explosion may result. The usual prevention is to add a PTC fuse (positive temperature coefficient) or standard fuse, but these methods only protect from shortcircuits and have a slow response. Therefore the safety of the spiral type of Li/SOCl2 cell is a critical problem.
Eve Battery has developed the Eve Safe-Plus High Power Li/SOCl2 spiral battery type that features superior pulse current and high continuous output current specifications. In these batteries Eve has introduced a power source management solution, with an 'intelligent' circuit in the battery to protect it and increase the safety and reliability.
These batteries are widely used in the AMR industry, communication and military industries, amongst others. The protection method has received two national patents.
