System power supply designers are confronted with extremely challenging design parameters in dealing with power consumption, physical space limitations, as well as EMI reduction issues to meet required regulatory standards. Alliance Semiconductor's family of PWM controllers thus have a unique advantage of a built-in EMI reduction engine. The ASM8P18xx is an adjustable frequency PWM controller with an integrated proprietary spread spectrum modulator for EMI reduction, specifically designed for use in SMPS. Containing all the functions of a standard PWM controller along with a spread spectrum modulation with adjustable spread, this device allows cost savings by reducing the number of PCB layers and shielding traditionally needed to pass EMI regulations. The industry's first general purpose EMI reduction IC, the ASM8P18xx is capable of driving a max 1A current output and it covers a wide supply voltage range from 7 V to 30 V d.c. The PWM frequency is selectable from 40 kHz to 400 kHz. It is offered in both 8 pin SOIC and DIP packages.
