Innovative 15 kV relay reduces cost and size for 30-75 A applications

Gigavac, a specialist in high voltage relay technology, has launched the G9, a sealed single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) 15 kV, 75 A vacuum relay.

The G9 has tungsten contacts sealed in a vacuum, so it is impervious to external contamination and can offer years of failure-free operation and can also 'hot switch' lower current loads. The G9 is only 58 mm tall and 60 mm wide including terminals. It comes with screw terminals for easy connection, and flange mounting that keeps the high voltage and control circuits far apart - to eliminate cross talk and any chance of high voltage shorts to the coil circuit.

"Until now, customers with applications up to 15 kV, with currents above 30 A had to buy a much larger and more expensive relay," comments Jim Lanum, Gigavac's VP Sales, "So Gigavac developed the all-new G9 mid-range 75 A relay, that fits between our G8 relay rated up to 30 A, and our hefty G50, that will carry up to 110 A. The new G9 saves the customer more than 35% in relay costs and makes their system much smaller."

The G9 coil voltages are 12 V d.c., 26,5 V d.c., 115 V d.c. or customised. Gigavac's unique changeable coil feature also allows users to change the coil even after the relay has been installed.
