Elma Electronic is offering a new concentric-design coded switch based on its popular Type 07 products. The C07 series concentric package offers product engineers a 'two-switches-in-one' solution that saves design space by obviating the need for a second switch in many applications.
This can lower the overall manufacturing costs of new products, and help to keep the finished unit smaller in size, it says.
The Type C07's switch body measures 10 x 10 mm and is available in a variety of coded outputs including BCD, HEX or Gray Code. It boasts a service life of 10 000 switching cycles for the 16-position (internal shaft) coded switch, and 7500 switching cycles for the 1-pole 3-position, centre-off, (outer shaft) rotary switch. With a smooth and precise turning movement, it is available with a switching torque from 2 N.cm to 5 N.cm (16 pos), and 3 N.cm to 6 N.cm (3 pos).
This new switch is rated at IP64 waterproofing (both shafts) for direct water spray, and offers a reflow temperature rating of up to 225°C for 90 s. This higher temperature tolerance eliminates the need for a separate soldering process when used with SMD parts on the same board.
The standard product offering includes 'make-before-break' switch contacts with operating temperature range of -25 to +85°C. Originally designed for use in handheld two-way radios, the C07 also lends itself to a range of other applications like industrial automation or medical electronics.
