Smallest 4 Mbps FIR infrared transceivers

Vishay Intertechnology has introduced what it claims is the industry's smallest FIR (fast infrared) IrDA transceivers to date, at only 1,9 mm high and 6 x 3 mm footprint. The new thin TFBS6711 and TFBS6712 transceivers work over a typical distance of 50 cm at data rates up to 4 Mbps. Previously, designers needing a low-profile transceiver were forced to choose a relatively slow SIR (serial infrared) transceiver. The TFBS6711/2 are also capable of transmitting remote control (TV, HiFi) signals over a distance of 6,5 m. The TFBS6711 I/O voltage is defined by the external power supply voltage. The TFBS6712 I/O voltage equals 1,8 V, allowing direct connection to 1,8 V microcontrollers. Both transceivers operate from 2,4 V to 3,6 V, supply current of 1,7 mA, and shutdown current of 0,01 μA.
